| Yosemite National Park used to have two major glacial valleys. After the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, the Hetch Hetchy Valley was dammed to provide a reliable source of water and power. I liked the Hetch Hetchy side of Yosemite better - partly because it didn't have the drive-through character of the Yosemite Valley. It actually feels like getting away from civilization. The dam, unfortunately, makes most of the valley inaccessible. But, so far, that has kept it from turning into a giant RV park. |
